If you are a recent graduate with various skills, abilities and experiences from University and some Freelance based work, you should ideally have an account on LinkedIn. If you have an account on Linked in already then you should do all you can to showcase what your good at and what you are looking for in order to be headhunted by companies looking to hire within your field of expertise’s.
If you don’t have an account on LinkedIn, it’s best to create one and start opening up the doors to new opportunities. If your visible and have something to showcase your more likely to be head hunted by various companies who are looking for candidates to fill a position.
Be aware that many recruitment consultants will also be using LinkedIn to scout for graduates and skilled professionals to fill a position they have available, and some of them might just be pushing an undesirable job your way that you may anxiously take an interest in. If the job is of interest to you then check out the recruitment agency/consultancy and what their aim is, and make sure to do some background research on them before responding back.
When you do respond back to a recruitment agency offering you a job make sure you ask them whether it’s contract based or a permanent position. If it is contract based don’t forget to ask the duration and whether the contract is renewed each month, or how long it’s expected to go on for. Remember that some of the recruitment companies have ad-hoc short term contracts that can stop at any moment, so don’t take yourself off the market if your going to take this work on.
On another note, you can also ask your connections on Linked in to endorse you for a particular skill, or a range of skills, as this will add weight to your skills and abilities, making you more attractive as a potential candidate for a particular role in your field.
