Moving up the career ladder is a great move for getting more money, more responsibility and a position that you find more rewarding and challenging. It is most people’s aims to move up the career ladder and get more out of their job, but how easy is it to do in reality?
These are some of the difficulties you might face in moving up the career ladder:
- Lack of experience. Employers will often want plenty of experience that you can demonstrate to them directly. If you can do this, they will be more likely to hire you. Make sure you point out transferable skills.
- No room for progression. If a company is small or a team structure is already set, there may be nowhere for you to go. Ask about career progression when you start. You can always look outside of your company if you have the experience necessary to climb the ladder.
