How to Ask Good Interview Questions

The interview is the pivotal part of hiring a new member of staff, helping you to decide whether a person is going to be right for your organisation. This means you have to use to interview to decide whether they will be a good fit and to work out whether you will want this particular individual in your team. Here are some tips for asking the right questions to find out what you need to know:

  • Don’t test people. Of course, you want to get to the root of what people are about. But you’re not going to see that if you are asking trick questions just for the sake of it.
  • Adapt your questioning if you wish. If there is something that interests you about a candidate and you want to know more, ask them. You don’t have to stick to a pre-agreed line of questioning if it doesn’t feel right.
